The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MINICOM) is pleased to be awarded the Gold Gender Equality Seal for promoting gender accountability. MINICOM was among the public and private institutions that underwent the "Gender Equality Seal Certification Programme," implemented by the Gender Monitoring Office (GMO) and the Private Sector Federation in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Programme for Promotion of Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment (UN Women).

This recognition is a testament to MINICOM’s commitment to advancing gender equality and empowering women at the workplace and through all its Interventions.

Key gender equality initiatives in MINICOM include, but are not limited to:

• Gender Mainstreaming in key policies, strategies, programmes, and projects
• Gender Mainstreaming in job creation interventions
• Gender mainstreaming and women's empowerment in access to external markets
• Gender and women's empowerment in cross-border trade cooperatives
• Women's empowerment in the coffee sector in collaboration with the International Trade Centre (ITC)
• She Trade Initiatives
• A gender budget is planned and reported regularly;
• Gender Mainstreaming in MINICOM Agencies interventions

The gender equality seal certification programme was initiated in 2017 with the aim of supporting private sector companies to promote gender equality and accountability through their businesses, procedures, and processes. Government institutions were also included in the programme to promote gender accountability within those institutions.
