EAC Delegation Visits Gatuna One Stop Border Post to Assess Trade Facilitation
On 19th February 2025, Ms. Veronica M. Nduva, Secretary General of the East African Community (EAC), led a high-level delegation on a visit to the Gatuna One Stop Border Post in Gicumbi District. She was accompanied by the Honourable Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Prudence Sebahizi, who hosted the visit, along with Ms. Annette Mutaawe Ssemuwemba, Deputy Secretary General in charge of Customs, Trade, and Monetary Affairs.
Also in attendance were the Commissioner General of the Rwanda Revenue Authority and his team, alongside local government and security officials.
The visit aimed to assess how cross-border trade is facilitated at one of Rwanda’s busiest entry points. The Gatuna One Stop Border Post manager provided a comprehensive briefing on the border’s daily operations, highlighting its 24/7 functionality and its role in enabling the movement of at least 3,000 people per day.
Ms. Nduva commended the efficiency of the border post, emphasising the importance of institutional coordination in ensuring seamless trade and mobility within the region.
