A FIRST-EVER TOOTHPASTE INDUSTRY IN RWANDA LAUNCHED IN KIGALI SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE
On November 22, 2024, the Pro Smile Toothpaste Factory, operated by RK Industries Ltd, was officially launched in the Kigali Special Economic Zone. With an investment of $5 million, this facility aims to boost local manufacturing and reduce dependency on imported oral hygiene products.
Rwanda has consistently ranked among the top countries in the World Bank's Doing Business reports. This favorable business environment has been instrumental in attracting both local and foreign direct investment to the country.
The National Industrial Policy recommends consistent engagement with the private sector to explore untapped investment opportunities for both domestic and export markets.
RK Industries Ltd is the first company in Rwanda's industrial history to produce toothpaste locally, a product that has previously been imported from global markets.
The opening of this factory is expected to yield several economic benefits, including domestic market recapture, job creation, revenue generation, and other multiplier effects in associated services. So far, 40 direct, decent jobs have been created, along with numerous interlinked supportive indirect jobs.
The factory's launch was officiated by officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, representatives of government and private sector stakeholders, and the High Commissioner of India to Rwanda.
