Industrial Output Rises by 6.8% in August 2026
Rwanda’s formal sector industrial output increased by 6.8% in August 2026 compared with the same month in 2025, while the annual average growth rate stood at 6.2%, according to the latest report by the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR).
The growth was recorded across all major industrial activities. Mining and quarrying increased by 26.0%, followed by electricity at 17.6%, water and waste management at 10.5%, and manufacturing at 4.8%.
The manufacturing sector’s growth was supported by a 7.0% increase in food processing, 10.4% in furniture and other manufacturing, and 10.8% in the manufacture of metal products, machinery and equipment. However, manufacturing of beverages and tobacco declined by 3.2%.
NISR describes the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) as a key economic indicator that measures short-term trends in industrial production and provides timely estimates of industrial performance.
The August 2026 results point to continued growth in Rwanda’s industrial sector, with mining, electricity, water and waste management, and key manufacturing activities contributing to the overall increase in output.
